Live’s “White, Discussion”:
A favorite song from my teenage years that I hadn’t listened to in a long time. It’s taken on a different meaning. Still don’t get the “though it leaves me quite erect” part though. Would like to get the songwriter’s/Live’s take on it.
Lyrics follow:
I talk of freedom
you talk of the flag
I talk of revolution
you’d much rather brag
and as the decibels of this disenchanting discourse
continue to dampen the daythe coin flips again and again, and again, and again
as our sanity walks away
all this discussion though politically correct
is dead beyond destruction
though it leaves me quite erectand as the final sunset rolls behind the earth
and the clock is finally dead
I’ll look at you, you’ll look at me
and we’ll cry a lot
but this will be what we said
this will be what we saidLook where all this talking got us, baby.
When I think back on all the bullshit I’ve listened to and read in the media, that line “this will be what we said” resonates with the futility of the circus we’ve created. What a circus, what a joke. Why do we elect so many cocksuckers? (And I mean no offense to gay men, excuse me.) Just doesn’t seem that many ass-kissing weasels could manage to “float to the top of the hierarchy”…who WE ELECT! Exactly HOW have we Americans fucked up this bad for this long? I really want to know and intend to keep reading history until it starts making sense. What the hell has gotten into us? Case in point: “hyper-consumerism.” Really? Why would we build an economy around that?! That sounds like an idiotic, unsustainable idea, but yet…here we are.
One of my current courses is in political science/government and the other is in economics, so I’m keeping entertained. Haven’t had as much time to write on here, which I like to do regularly to decompress and post oddities and stuff of personal interest. Been doing an awful lot of thinking lately and waiting for the day I’ll once again have time to hash it out in writing. And to be freed up to read other books (tonight discovered I lost my Mark Twain book, dammit). Needing to put this stuff down somewhere and mix it together and see what comes up. The coursework isn’t so fascinating, but the assignments have led to interesting articles. Does me good to have a little focus in my research for a couple months, just to tune back in to the current economic and political climate. It’s nice tuning it out sometimes though too, researching it at leisure.
Like with the recent shooting in…Texas, I believe. A friend called to tell me about it. Haven’t read or heard anything else yet, but will look into it eventually. Bummer to hear military people are going ape and shooting up the place. Can’t be having that. Will have to wait to learn more about the case.
So much is going on right now, and tonight there’s laundry drying and roast and veggies in the crockpot.
Out.
